Carbonite is an award winning cloud backup service that is available for Windows and macOS users which can make full backups of computers including documents, e-mails, music, photos, and settings.
It has different plans to offer for individuals, small businesses and large enterprises. Carbonite client software once installed and configured, works in the background and starts making the backup automatically. It also looks for new and changed files on the drive and then backs them up using the incremental backup. The files are also compressed before they are backed up to decrease the uploading time. The files are encrypted using 128-bit Blowfish encryption using a secure SSL link.
The Carbonite client software program automatically backs up all of the content on the hard drive including text documents, spreadsheets, financial documents, photos, music, etc but it does not back up temporary, log or video files automatically. Videos and other files that are greater than 4 GB require manual backup.
The program also integrates with the Windows Explorer on PC and adds green dots next to the icons of the files that are backed up. Integration also involves the option to add or remove any files from the backup which can be done through the Windows context menus using the right mouse button. Carbonite allows the backup of any file or folder from both the local hard drive and the external drive.
Carbonite also helps during the recovery from ransomware viruses and helps you to successfully recover your data from ransomware, but you have to contact with the Carbonite Customer Service to recover from ransomware.
Carbonite has received several awards by the top leading tech websites including the “Best Windows Backup Tool”. The name of the company is taken from the Star Wars series, where carbonite is a fictional substance used to freeze Han Solo.
